One of his female coworkers had quietly mentioned she sometimes struggled preparing for long shifts, so he started keeping a small emergency supply in his locker at work—just in case she or anyone else ever needed help. He didn’t tell me because he didn’t want it to sound strange or make me uncomfortable. He just wanted to be kind in a simple, unspoken way. In his attempt to be discreet, he borrowed mine without realizing I’d eventually notice.
