A $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the apparent poaching of two black bears on the Harrison River near Chilliwack is being offered by wildlife protection charity The Fur-Bearers.

According to recent media reports, a fisherman discovered two dead black bears tied together and floating in the water. A video of the deceased bears clearly shows all four paws were removed. The BC Conservation Officer Service (BC COS) confirmed they received a report on October 5, 2024, and is investigating the incident.

“Poaching has no place in British Columbia,” says Lesley Fox, Executive Director for The Fur-Bearers. “We are encouraging any residents who may have information, security or trail camera footage, or who may have witnessed unusual activity in this area to contact investigators at the BC COS.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the BC COS RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277 or online at https://forms.gov.bc.ca/environment/rapp/. Reports can be made anonymously.
