Crews Wright, a 17-year-old talent from Samson, Alabama, is quickly making waves on this season of American Idol. On Monday night (March 31), he delivered a show-stopping rendition of Conway Twitty’s “Goodbye Time,” earning his spot in the next round of the competition.
Before stepping onto the stage of the newly dubbed “Idol Arena,” Wright drew a unique comparison between the high-stakes environment of Hollywood Week and his experience in the rodeo arena.
“This setup reminds me a lot of rodeo days,” he shared. “They’re calling it an arena this year, and that hits home for me. I was riding horses before I could even walk. The adrenaline, the nerves—it’s all the same. It’s like bull riding; your heart’s racing, everyone’s watching, and you’re trying to hold on tight.”Wearing classic country gear—blue jeans, a salmon pearl-snap shirt, and a straw cowboy hat—Wright walked onto the stage with steady confidence. His mom, cheering him on from the audience at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, called out, “You got this, Crews—do what you do, shine!”
Before performing, Crews shared his passion with the judges.
“I believe I should be the next American Idol because I’m here to keep traditional country music alive,” he said. “It’s not about chasing trends—it’s about making music that stands the test of time.
