The Night Before My Remarriage, I Received A Text Message From My Ex-Husband – And Because Of That One Text, I Canceled The Wedding The Night
My name is Isabella, 32 years old, living in Manila.
My ex-husband, Mike, and I dated for almost 5 years before we got married. We love each other very much, but that love can’t overcome the pressure of my husband’s family.

From the first day I became a bride, Miguel’s parents didn’t like me.

They thought I was a “bad partner”, that my family was ordinary, unworthy of their child.

We got married in a hurry when I was three months pregnant.
The wedding was simple, there were no dowries, no gold at the wedding.
My parents were very upset, but because they loved their daughter, they didn’t say anything.

In the years that followed, married life seemed like a series of stressful days.

I tried, persevered, but Miguel was torn between his wife and his parents – he couldn’t stand me.

By the time my son, Liam, turned 2 years old, I was exhausted.

I decided to break up with him and take him back to my mother’s house in Quezon City.

My family did not object. They said:

“Come on, son, you’re tired.”

Two years later, I got engaged to another man – Rafael, a gentle engineer who loved me and our son.

The wedding is scheduled for next month.

However, the night before the official engagement, Miguel got a call out of the blue.

Her voice was soft, soft, and a little sad.

We talked for a long time – the first time in more than two years.

He told me that he had saved enough money to buy a small apartment in Pasig, where the three of us – me, him and our son – could live in peace, without interference.

“I just wanted a chance to recover. When my parents didn’t get involved. Let’s go.”

I was silent for a long time and then said:

“Michael, it’s over. You are married to someone else.”

He sighed. Her voice was annoyed:

“I understand. But before you decide, take a look at the old drawer next to the bed. I left something important there.”

I was spinning and spinning all night.
Since the separation, I haven’t returned to the old apartment in Makati, which contains so many memories of ours – both happy and devastating.

The next morning, however, I took a taxi.

The room was still empty, covered in dust.

I opened the drawer on the side of the bed – where he kept our little family photos.

Inside was a small wooden box.

I opened it. On the inside is… A set of household papers in my and my son’s name, along with a bank passbook.

On the paper were written Miguel’s words, passionately and trembling:

“I’m not asking you to come back out of pity.

I just want you to know that my love hasn’t changed.

This apartment is for you and the baby – no matter who you marry, I still want you and your child to be complete.”

I was silent for a long time.
Tears fell on the paper.
I don’t know if it was love, redemption, or his final goodbye.
But I understand that my heart has not completely forgotten him.

That night, I called Rafael.
My voice cracked:

“I’m sorry… I can’t go on with this marriage.”

He was silent for a long time, then replied softly:

“I understand. When your heart is in someone else, even if you marry me, you won’t be happy.”

I put the phone down, sitting in the middle of the old apartment – which used to be my home.
The afternoon sun shone through the window, illuminating the picture of the three of us when we were still happy.

I’ve realized one thing:
It’s not because of money, or simply because love doesn’t die…
But because there are people who, even when they’re gone, will always be in our hearts – like scars that don’t heal.

And so, my marriage was canceled.
But in my heart, for the first time in years, I felt peace.
Because I knew, somewhere in this big city of Manila, Miguel – the man who had loved me all his life – was still quietly watching over me,
and we, even though we were no longer married, were still a family
