The Beginning of Silence
When she first learned of Marco’s infidelity, she had just given birth to their youngest daughter, Maya.
One night, as she got up to give the child milk, she noticed that her husband was not with her.
He quietly walked out of the room, and from the crack of the office door, he saw her on a video call with a young girl.
The wife’s voice — soft, soft, words she had never heard for herself.
He stiffened. In his hand, the bottle of milk was shaking. But he didn’t say anything.
He quietly returned to the bedroom, closed his eyes, and from there, chose to remain silent — until the end.
Months later, Marco resumed his relationships. Not just one, but many.

But at night, in her own room separated from her husband, Elena wept silently, preventing her own soul from being completely crushed.
One day, Mark’s body suddenly collapsed.
Diagnosis: Liver cancer, final stage.
The pain came as fast as the cold between him and his wife.
At the hospital, she was the only one with her.
There were no women, no friends — just Elena, taking care of the man she had forgiven for a long time but no longer loved.
He cleaned her body, cooked the dishes, and kept watch all night.
There were no complaints. There is also no sparkle.
Her eyes, always calm — peaceful on the outside, but cold on the inside.
The Last Day
In the last week of his life, one of his former companions arrived.
Beautiful, baby, with precious flowers.
But seeing Elena sitting by the bed, silently wiping off Marco’s sweat, he suddenly stopped.
And before he could get closer, he turned around and left.
No one had the courage to quarrel with a woman who had been silent for twelve years.
Marcus nodded slowly.
One night, he called out her husband’s name.
“Elena…” — her voice was barely audible.
“Come on… You’re close…”
He approached, gently. Mark lifted his head and placed it on the pillow.
“What do you want to say?”
“Elena…” Marcus cried, almost crying. “I know I have made a lot of mistakes. I am sorry.
But… You still love me, don’t you?”
Elena smiled.
A gentle smile, but no warmth.
“Mahal pa rin kita?” — ulit niya, parang tinik sa dila.
Tumango si Marco, umaasang oo ang isasagot niya.
Hinawakan niya ang kamay ng asawa, pinisil.
At doon, marahan siyang yumuko sa tainga ni Marco, at bumulong:
“Labindalawang taon na ang nakalipas mula nang matutunan kong hindi na kita mahal.
Naniwala ka bang nanatili ako para sa’yo? Hindi. Nanatili ako para sa mga bata —
para hindi nila ikahiya ang tatay nila.
Huwag kang mag-alala… Pag nawala ka, sasabihin ko sa kanila na isa kang mabuting ama.
Para hindi sila lumaking galit sa’yo.”
Parang pinutol ng hangin ang hininga ni Marco.
Nakatitig siya sa kanya, nanginginig, habang ang luha’y bumabagsak sa payat na mukha.
Gusto niyang magsalita, ngunit wala na siyang boses.
In Elena’s eyes, she saw no anger—
only nothingness.
And that’s when he realized: he had been out of this woman’s heart for a long time.
As she searched for other arms, Elena’s silence slowly killed the last strand of her love.
Elena adjusted the blanket, wiping the tears from her husband’s cheeks.
“Go to sleep,” he said softly. “It’s all over.”
At the last moment, Mark’s tears fell.
And as the monitor faded, he knew — the man he once thought was omnipotent was hopeless.
