A hot air balloon ride turned tragic in southern Brazil on June 21, when a fire broke out mid-flight, killing eight and injuring 13 others. The balloon, operated by Sobrevoar Serviços Turísticos, was flying over Praia Grande in Santa Catarina when flames erupted in the basket. Survivors said the pilot, Tiago Luiz Lemos, urged passengers to jump as he tried to lower the balloon. Thirteen people—including Lemos—escaped.But with less weight, the balloon rose again, carrying the remaining eight before crashing in flames. Officials believe a backup burner may have reignited due to a gas leak, possibly caused by strong winds and stabilization cables used during takeoff. Three were reportedly found embracing in their final moments.Witnesses saw bodies fall from the sky as rescue teams rushed to help. Brazil’s aviation agency has launched an investigation, and the tour company has suspended operations.
