Second Lady Usha Vance stepped back into the spotlight this week wearing a dress that many followers may have recognized from an earlier White House appearance, as she promoted the return of her Summer Reading Challenge for children across the country.

Vance appeared in a recent interview with ABC’s Linsey Davis wearing the same black floral midi dress she previously wore during a White House event honoring military mothers. The Milly Abbygail Poppy Jersey Midi-Dress, sold through Saks Fifth Avenue, carries a retail price of $395 and features a bold floral design across the front.

The appearance marked a wardrobe repeat for Vance, but the focus of her latest public remarks was firmly on encouraging children to spend more time reading this summer.

The interview, scheduled to air in full on ABC News Live Prime, highlighted the expansion of a literacy initiative that first launched last year.

Expanding a program built around reading

Speaking with ABC, Vance said the Summer Reading Challenge exceeded expectations during its first year and is now returning with broader participation from organizations around the country.

“So this year, we’re having a big rollout all over the country,” Vance said.

According to the Second Lady, the program is designed to be simple and accessible for students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Participants are encouraged to read 12 books during the summer and are free to choose any subjects that interest them.

Vance emphasized that the challenge is intended to make reading enjoyable rather than restrictive, allowing children to follow their own interests while completing the program.

She told ABC that children can select books on any topic they enjoy, whether it is history, animals, or another favorite subject.

Students who participate can record their reading on a log and submit it through the White House website. Vance said children who complete the challenge will receive a certificate and will also be entered into a raffle connected to a visit to Washington, D.C.

“We’ll also enter all of the kids into a raffle to come visit the White House, come spend some time in D.C., and sort of enjoy all that D.C. has to offer,” she said.

Familiar look from a recent White House appearance

The dress worn during the ABC interview previously drew attention when Vance appeared at a White House event recognizing military mothers ahead of Mother’s Day.

At that ceremony, she joined Vice President JD Vance while honoring military families and mothers connected to the armed forces. Photos and videos from the event generated positive reactions online, with several social media users complimenting both her appearance and her choice of outfit.

The public appearances come as Vance and the Vice President prepare to welcome their fourth child. The couple, who announced the pregnancy in January, are expecting a baby boy in late July. They are already parents to Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.

While the floral dress sparked discussion on both occasions, Vance’s latest appearance placed the spotlight on a nationwide effort aimed at encouraging more children to discover the benefits of reading throughout the summer months.
