The morning felt different from the start. Cool air drifted through the room as a thin beam of sunlight slipped through the curtains, stretching across the floor like a quiet promise. Carefully, I got out of bed so I wouldn’t wake him and walked to the bathroom. My hands trembled as I reached for the small box hidden in the cabinet.
